Food: how did you land on this specialty, Kai?
I ask myself this occasionally. When I think back, I always stood by my mother’s side in the kitchen and wanted to help her, or just understand how it all worked. It’s possible that that’s when the foundation had been laid, I just didn’t know it at the time. Sometimes it’s inexplicable how things come to you… but I’m glad because food is a great subject. I love it! And what happened then?
Well, after photography school in Berlin, I “accidentally” landed a job as a food photographer. It just happened. New dishes every day. The kitchen was like a magnet for me. Thus, the theme took its course. What is special about food photography?
Basically, it is something that affects everyone. I mean the need for food. So it is actually nothing special, but also something that is essential in our daily lives. And that makes it a topic that compels the interest of many people. In addition to studio shots, it can also be very interesting to shoot on location.
